Happy birthday to my Dad!!!
and Cambo new year preppin'
Happy birthday Dad!! I hope It's great and that your old and decrepit age doesn't hinder how awesome the party is!!
This week was awesome. It is really weird though, because it our worst week in regards to numbers, but we all know that isn't important.
Monday we had everything fall through, which we were sad about, because we had 4 lessons planned for that day. We went out and tracted trying to show our faith that we want to find, but alas, no luck. Tons and Tons of rain though.
Tuesday we started our day out tracting again up a street called 14th avenue that people had been telling us had tons of cambodians, but as we got going we only met tons of Vietnamese people haha! We found some pretty cool houses though! After that we went to district meeting for a couple hours, then dinner with the Weavers! It was a ton of fun! After that we went to Prims and had a lesson with him! He is on track to get baptized a week from Sunday!!
Wednesday was good too, we got to go downtown for lunch with Moley again, That honestly is one of my favorite things we get to do. It isn't often that we get to really talk with members, but when we do it is fantastic. She helps us learn to speak better and takes us to incredible restaurants in downtown Oakland, and she is the nicest lady ever, and her husband is the coolest. After that we went to our next three appointments and were surprised to find out that all of them had stood us up haha, we have been getting a ton of that lately, so we weren't surprised. We finally tracked down this guy Named sayon that is less active, and we had a really cool lesson with him and got to know him a little bit! He is an awesome guy, and has actually been going to some of his friends that he is worried about and telling them to go back to church haha, despite being less active! he is way cool. A while later after some tracting we went to the Sok family! They are all members except their dad, but their dad is one of the most genuine kind people I have met. We taught their family the restoration, and it was really funny, because their Dad answered more questions that the rest of them haha! We are trying hard to go back and meet with him again, missionaries have tried to teach him in the past, but we have had some good lessons with him, so we will put some prayer to it and ask for help to know what to do!
Thursday we planned to tract all day, then decided to go help in some yards that we had been in. the rain had totally wrecked some yards that were already a mess so we tried to go and help out. We cleaned up four yards, but all of the people turned out to be less active's that have been lost as they've moved around haha! we went to tract an apartment complex though, and met this old man, Om Soeun, and he let us in! it was cool! he said he has met missionaries before, but never really liked them, but we spoke really good khmer, so he said he would listen to us haha! He didn't want us to teach that day, but he wanted to tell us his story and talk about cambodia, and that we needed to come back the same time next week to talk to him, It was great. He is so humble and willing to help us and has a desire to learn what it is about that christ that can help him. He plays guitar too, so next week he wants to play guitar for us!
Friday we had to go get an oil change, and it was really weird. We were the only ones there for like three hours besides another set of sisters haha! then we went home, finished weekly planning and went to Dance practice! The Dances are awesome. they performed all of them to get ready for this Saturday!!
Saturday we went to work with some tracting, helped a guy change his tire, then went to correlation and set up a home teaching list for the branch!! we have been trying to get that to happen for years, and we are finally getting it going!! after that we went to see Sokunthea, but he wasn't home, so we went to our dinner appointment with Siphal and Jessica, who are literally the best people I have ever met, I love them. We taught Prim there afterwards too, it was great!
Sunday was awesome. We had meetings, Church, which was awesome as usual, studies, dinner, then Why I Believe!! Prim came and met all the missionaries and President Frandsen, and it was so funny, when they finished talking Prim just gave him a huge hug, president was pretty surprised haha!
I have been learning a lot about what makes a good missionary lately, and it doesn't necessarily have to do with the baptisms or lessons or even what they are doing all day. It is really simple. Is the missionary using God's time the way he wants him to and being obedient to the commandments he has been given? Is he seeking to help all he meets come closer to christ simply by the way he acts as he interacts with that person? Is he seeking to receive authority, power, and direction to guide the Lords work through Prayer and through his Studies? If missionaries are striving to fulfill their purpose by really really praying and applying the basics of the gospel in their efforts, they will succeed in fulfilling their purpose and fulfilling the work God has prepared for them. I love being a missionary!!! The church is true, there is a prophet on the earth, and Jesus Christ himself Leads his church. Have an awesome week!!!
