It has been an awesome last week and a half!
Last Monday we had a dinner appointment wit the L... family. It was awesome but kind of scary, just because they have a daughter that they want to marry a return missionary, so they have the missionaries over so they can get their daughter to know the missionaries. We had a lesson on Focusing your service to the Lord with them, it went super great!
Tuesday all our lessons fell through, so we went contacting at this place called Oak Park where we found a ton of Cambodians live! It was awesome. There is this game called "Sae" that is kind of like hacky sack but way cooler, and we played it with some older Cambodian men there and scheduled some lessons, it was a lot of fun!
On Wednesday it was Elder H.... birthday!!! It was a ton of fun. P... fed us that night and gave him a cake and stuff, and it was the funniest cake I have ever seen, I'll add a picture. We had an exchange with the Zone Leader that night too, it was a blast.
Thursday I was leading out the Cambodian Bay area with Elder Jensen, and right in the morning once again, our lessons called and cancelled on us! The devil is working hard to try and keep us from teaching, but he isn't going to be able to try hard enough, because we ended up with three lessons still! We were able to meet a less active named L.... and he said how much he misses church, and we invited him to come back and said that everyone would be super excited to see him and they ask us every week to ask if he will come back, and he was pretty happy, it was really awesome. Elder Jensen and I needed dinner, so we went to a corn on a stick stand, like the ones in Nacho Libre, and we met a couple Cambodian guys that I hadn't seen over in East Oakland before. We were really excited to talk to them, and it turns out they were baptized in the 80's in San Jose, but their records got lost when they moved, so we will start working with them!
Friday, we had weekly planning and then went to a members house named R... H..., and she gave us dinner and helped us with our Khmer, she is awesome! She told me that if I ever want to come back to the bay area to visit or to go to school or whatever, that I could live with her family! Ha ha :) They are the best! We went to teach J.... after that, but he was busy that night moving over from Stockton to Oakland, so we went to visit the Cambodian Buddhist Temple, and they fed us some cool Khmer desserts, I don't really know what they were called, but we me some people that were like "I don't even understand Buddha, can you teach me about Christ?", Haha! It was the coolest!
Saturday was Halloween, and we went out contacting and had a lesson and did some service for some less actives, it was fun! We had to be back in our apartment by 5 that day, so we went and organized and redecorated and cleaned, it was a good night!
Sunday was pretty normal? P.... and J.... came to church and loved it again, and in Sunday school, I got to translate for the first time to English!! It was way harder than I thought it would be. Going English to Khmer is easier. I had to get help, because I couldn't really understand the teacher, haha! But President Hang thought it was pretty funny! haha! After church we went to contact a guy that said we could stop by, and we found out his wife is a member, so we ended up tracking down another less active, it was awesome!
On Monday, we had a short P-day, til 1:00! Ha ha! After that we went to see V... C...! She wasn't home, but we met her son and played with her dogs while we talked, it was good. We tried to make a couple more visits, but no success. We had a dinner that night with Sally Sin and her family, it was delicious! We went to this one little Thai restaurant in Oakland, her son Sean told us he wanted to get ready to go on a mission, so we were super excited to hear that!
Tuesday we had an awesome dinner with President H....s family, we loved it, and we found out about the families in the branch, which helped our planning this week. We went to J....'s after that. We had a really cool lesson on the Priesthood with him and he related it all to the Old Testament, he understands a ton about the Gospel. We asked him if he would be willing to teach our Gospel Doctrines class once he got baptized, haha! He said yes!
Wednesday we found a new service opportunity at this old folks home by our apartment, and they were super excited to have help, it was great to see how excited everyone was that we were there! We got to go teach a 12 year old named B..... also, and we looked inside this Laundromat we walked past, and inside was all this Cambodian writing! We went and talked to the owner and he invited us over to his house! He also got baptized in the 80's, but that's ok, one day his family will come listen in to what we ar teaching! We ad splits with our ward last night too, and we got to learn about a large Cambodian population in San Francisco, so next week we hopefully get to go to San Francisco!! I'm super excited. Lots of good things happening in the Cambodian tenth Branch!
Today was awesome!! We had the opportunity to go to the Oakland temple! It was a really spiritual session with all the missionaries there, I loved it! Right after we went to a BBQ at the mission home with the Walnut Creek (mine), Concord, and San Francisco zones! It was a ton of fun seeing all the Lords servants together. We played basketball and volleyball for a while, I loved it! I got to talk to my friend Elder Westover from the MTC quite a bit too, it was so awesome!
Fun thing: I found out that there is a facebook page with tones of pictures from the branch, just search Cambodian tenth branch! you can do the same thing with the mission too, search California Oakland/San Francisco mission! There will be pictures from the BBQ! President Frandsen also played basketball with us, I have a couple pictures!
I hope everyone is doing well! I love you all so much and I love my Savior. I see his love in peoples lives every single day, and I love every second of it!!!
